What the Bible says about wedding

Christian weddings use Scripture for three things: to say what love is (1 Corinthians 13), to make a promise (Ruth 1:16), and to bless the couple (Numbers 6:24-26).

Ruth 1:16 was first spoken by a daughter-in-law to her mother-in-law, not by a bride. Couples choose it because it is one of the most complete vows of loyalty in any book: your people will be my people, your God my God.

For an invitation or a cake topper, short lines work best: “Many waters cannot quench love,” or “a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” For a card, add one line of your own under the verse.
