For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
Said to people in exile: God’s thoughts toward you are peace and a future with hope.
Graduation is an ending and a beginning at once. These verses are chosen for cards, caps and speeches: words about the future, courage and God’s guidance. Here is one for your graduate.
A verse for you
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
Said to people in exile: God’s thoughts toward you are peace and a future with hope.
KJVFor I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
Said to people in exile: God’s thoughts toward you are peace and a future with hope.
Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.
Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.
Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
Courage is commanded because God goes with you wherever you go.
Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
God finishes what He starts. The good work in you will be completed.
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Lean on God, not on your own understanding, and He will make your path clear.
Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
Delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.
Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
Do not let anyone look down on you for being young. Set the example.
The Lord bless thee, and keep thee: The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
The priestly blessing: the Lord bless you, keep you and give you peace.
Graduation verses usually carry one of three messages. The future is in God’s hands (Jeremiah 29:11). Go with courage, because He goes with you (Joshua 1:9). And what God started in you, He will finish (Philippians 1:6).
Jeremiah 29:11 is the most popular, and it is worth knowing its setting: it was written to people starting a long life in a foreign land. It fits graduates moving into the unknown.
For a young graduate, 1 Timothy 4:12 is an encouragement not to wait to live faithfully: “Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example.”
Jeremiah 29:11 is the most chosen. Proverbs 16:3 and Philippians 1:6 are strong alternatives for a card.
Philippians 4:13, Joshua 1:9 (“be strong and of a good courage”) or simply “Jeremiah 29:11.”
Numbers 6:24-26: “The Lord bless thee, and keep thee.” Add the graduate’s name and one line about their next step.
