Bible Verses for Protection

People have prayed the Bible’s protection verses for thousands of years: before travel, at night, in danger. Psalm 91 calls God “my refuge and my fortress.” Here is a verse of protection for you and the people you love.

A verse for you

Psalm 91:1-2
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

Living in God’s shelter means resting in His shadow: my refuge, my fortress.

What the Bible says about protection

The protection psalms use pictures of safe places: a shadow, a fortress, a strong tower, wings to hide under. They describe God as a place you can run into, not just a force acting from far away.

Psalm 121 is a traveler’s psalm, sung on the road to Jerusalem: “The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in.” Many families pray it over each other before a journey.

Biblical protection does not mean nothing bad will ever happen. The same Bible tells of believers who suffered. It means that nothing can reach you outside of God’s care, and that nothing can separate you from His love.
