Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
A mind that stays on God is kept in perfect peace.
When your thoughts will not stop, the Bible does not tell you to empty your mind. It tells you what to fill it with. Isaiah 26:3 promises perfect peace to the mind that stays on God. Start with the verse below.
A verse for you
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
A mind that stays on God is kept in perfect peace.
KJVThou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
A mind that stays on God is kept in perfect peace.
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
A practical way out of spiraling thoughts: choose what is true, pure and lovely to dwell on.
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
You do not have to obey every thought. You can take it captive and bring it to Christ.
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
God renews the way you think, so you are not shaped by the pressure around you.
In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul.
When thoughts multiply inside you, God’s comfort can still bring joy.
Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
A prayer for an anxious mind: ask God to search your thoughts and lead you.
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Lean on God, not on your own understanding, and He will make your path clear.
Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
Lift your attention from what is passing to what is eternal.
Overthinking is usually the mind trying to control what it cannot. Scripture answers with two moves. First, trust: “lean not unto thine own understanding.” You do not have to solve everything tonight.
Second, redirect. Paul does not say to stop thinking; he gives a list of what to think about instead: whatever is true, honest, just, pure, lovely and of good report. And he says thoughts can be taken captive, examined and brought to Christ, instead of obeyed.
A prayer that helps: Psalm 139:23-24. Ask God to search your anxious thoughts and lead you in the way everlasting.
It calls us to trust God instead of our own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6) and to choose what we dwell on (Philippians 4:8). A mind “stayed on” God is promised perfect peace (Isaiah 26:3).
Psalm 4:8: “I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety.” Pair it with Psalm 94:19 for when thoughts multiply.
In 2 Corinthians 10:5 Paul describes noticing a thought, holding it up to what God says, and refusing to be ruled by it. It is a practice, not a single moment.
